Fishing probably draws more people to this area than anything else. Anglers catch marlins, sailfish, swordfish, roosterfish, yellowtail, cabrillas, tuna, and sierras in the bay. The best season for deep sea fishing is March to September. Rental of fishing gear and boat charters can be arranged through the Hotel Los Arcos.

The best beaches are north of town. Playa Coromuel, the closet to La Paz, is three miles from downtown and has a water slide and restaurants. El Tecolote offers services such as a restaurant, bar, bathrooms, shaded areas and water sports. El Coyote and Balandara are beautiful but have no services. Isle Espiritu Santo has no facilities, but is great for water sports and fishing. Los Islotes is located at the northern tip of Espiritu Santo and is famous for its sea lion colony. Isla Cerralvo has wonderful beaches, plentiful fishing and wild fauna and is reachable by boat from La Paz. La Paz has four main marinas and full boat services.

Named "The World's Biggest Fish Trap," the Sea of Cortez offers divers an abundance of marine life. Unlike the pretty coral reefs and colorful little fish found in the Caribbean, here divers can encounter BIG fish and marine mammals. The high season for diving is June to December, with the best combination of air and water temperatures and underwater visibility in the fall. At that time, visibility may exceed 100 feet and surface water temperatures are still in the high 70's (Fahrenheit).

Full day excursion includes round-trip transportation, two and a half hour tour in a 22' panga and lunch. January - April Only. Get so close, you can touch the gray whales as they migrate to warmer waters. Whale watching is guaranteed to be one of the most memorable experiences while in La Paz, if not in your entire life!
